MMD complains against The Post
By KASUBA MULENGATHE MMD elections campaign committee has written to the Media Council of Zambia (MECOZ) to officially complain about The Post newspaper editorial comments that have allegedly unfairly scandalised acting President Rupiah Banda since August 20 this year.
Media committee chairperson, Chibeza Mfuni, said in a letter to MECOZ that since August 20, the Post had published more than 20 editorial comments that had allegedly been full of hate against Mr Banda who is also MMD candidate in the October 30 presidential elections.
The letter is dated September 22, 2008, and is copied to all media houses, the Press Association of Zambia, MISA-Zambia, International Federation of Journalists (Brussels) and the Committee to Protect Journalists (USA).
Other organisations to whom the letter is copied are the Freedom of Expression Institute (USA), Article 19 Institute of South Africa and Reporters Without Borders of France.
“The Post newspaper has from August 20 until now, published more than 20 editorial comments full of hate speech against MMD candidate for the presidency, Rupiah Banda, whose personality and character you have unfairly scandalised without any good cause,” he said.
Efforts to get a comment from MECOZ failed by press time.
