Zanaco have edge -URA coach
By VICTOR KUMWENDAUGANDA Revenue Authority (URA) coach Moses Basena says Zanaco have a psychological advantage in this Saturday’s Orange Champions League preliminary round clash set for Kampala.
Basena said in an interview from Kampala on Saturday that Zanaco will have an edge because their coach, Wedson Nyirenda, has an insight of URA’s style of play.
Nyirenda was Zesco coach when the Ndola-based side beat URA 2-0 on aggregate in the same competition and at the same stage in 2008.
Basena also admitted having no idea of Zanaco’s play but hopes that the style of the Zambia National team is similar to the Zambian champions’.
“The Chipolopolo represent the exact Zambian menu and having watched them at the 2010 Africa Cup in Angola, we now know the kind of opponents we will face,” Basena said.
He said if Zanaco prove as good as the Zambia national team, then his side will have to be at their best to qualify to the next stage.
Basena is, however, confident that his players are ready to challenge for honours on the continent.
“We have got the ability to compete. We can’t say we are going to win the championship but we have what it takes to go all the way,” he said.
Basena is delighted that the league’s top scorer Henry Kasekka has recovered from injury.
Goalkeeper Eddie Kaweesa and defender Jimmy Mukubya are the other players returning from injury.
“ I am extremely delighted that all my players are training without injury. I have all the players to choose from and that is a great thing considering the importance of the game,” Basena said.
URA are making a third successive attempt to reach the group stage of the Champions League.
