Tembo, Mayuka set for UEFA debut
By CHISHALA MUSONDA

ZAMBIA strikers Fwayo Tembo and Emmanuel Mayuka plying their careers in Switzerland are set to debut in the 2010-11 UEFA Champions League as their respective sides FC Basel 1893 and BSC Young Boys 1898 gear up for the third round qualifiers Wednesday night.

Swiss champions, Basel begin their campaign in the world’s famous football championship away to Debreceni VSC of Hungary who came through a second round scare from Estonia’s FC Levadia Tallinn.

Having won two league matches in a space of four days, Basel go to the Puskas Ferenc Stadium in Bucharest looking to build-up on their impressive form.

Tembo, who came on as a substitute in the last two matches, may be the tramp card for the Swiss side in this away third round qualifying fixture.

Tembo, who moved to Switzerland from Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia, has made an immediate impression in both his introduction from the bench for the Expo Super League champions.

And Mayuka who missed his club’s weekend match may not be available for BSC Young Boys in the home encounter at the Stade de Suisse in Bern against Fenerbahce SK of Turkey.

The hitman who opened his scoring account against Spaniards Deportivo La Coruna in a friendly will be missed if he does not pass the fitness test for tonight’s encounter.

He joined Young Boys from Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv.

In the Netherlands, another Chipolopolo striker, Jacob Mulenga will also be in action in the Europa Cup as his side FC Utrecht plays FC Luzern of Switzerland in the third round qualifier.

Utrecht will be at home tomorrow while the reverse fixtures in both the Champions League and the Europa Cup are scheduled for next week.
