ZGU picks 4 for youth tourney
By ELIZABETH SAKALATHE Zambia Golf Union (ZGU) has selected four junior golfers for next month’s Africa Junior Golf Challenge in South Africa.
Zambia Junior Golf Association (ZJGA) assistant director Nkrumah Musonda, who released the names yesterday, said the golfers were picked on Saturday during a selection trial at Ndola Golf Club.
Musonda named the golfers as Aaron Simfukwe Jr, Ben Mooe, Eto Kabudula and Fred Njovu.
He said Njovu, Simfukwe and Kabudula are currently in camp in Ndola while Mooe is in Zimbabwe attending golf lessons.
Musonda said the team is competent enough to perform well at the tournament.
He said Zambia has in the past performed badly but the union is looking forward to a better outcome this year.
The tournament has attracted over 50 competitors across the continent.
At last year’s tournament held in Mombasa, Kenya, Zambia finished in fifth place.
“We have seen the boys play and I can confirm that they are the best that will help us get results in South Africa,” he said.
Musonda said the ZGU is looking for K50 million to send the team for the tournament.
He appealed to corporate organisations to assist in raising the money.
The tournament will run from April 4 to 8.
