Nachula sisters draw blank

By LOMBE MWENYA

THE Nachula sisters, Racheal and Rabecca, on Thursday could not demonstrate a clean pair of heels when they failed to win medals in the 400m race at the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Africa Senior Track and Field Championship in Kenya.

Delegation leader Davison Mung’ambata said in an interview from Kenya that Racheal finished in 6th place, taking 53:26 seconds while Rebecca was last and timed 54:12 seconds.

Botswana’s Amantle Montsho won a gold medal. Mung’ambata said the girls could not win any medals but put up a splendid performance.
And the 100m relay team finished in fifth place to crash out of the competition won by Nigeria.
Mung’ambata said the Zambian athletes could not perform well because they were jittery.

He said that some of the athletes were taking part in the competition for the first time and lacked confidence.
Mung’ambata said the athletes have so far built their confidence and will perform better in upcoming competitions.

He encouraged them to perform better in the remaining disciplines and win medals.
“It is not too late for them,” he said, “they still have other disciplines to compete in, and if they work hard they could win something,” Mung’ambata said.
He said despite the out turn of events, the athletes did their best in the various categories as they reached the finals.

Today, Rachael and Rabecca will compete for honours in 200m, while Titus Kakunda and Saviour Kombe will run in the men’s 200m race.
Mirriam Mukulama will compete in javelin and Tony Wamulwa will takes to the track in the 5,000m race.
