Agric Show Opens
By PETER CHIKWAMPUTHE 84th Agricultural and Commercial Show under the theme ‘Sustainable Development’ has opened its gates to the public with a lot of entertainment and business activities on display.
The show, which is taking place in the capital city Lusaka, opened on Thursday and will close on August 2.
The show society, as usual, has lined up several activities that help show-goers entertain themselves after a long day of visiting exhibition stands.
Music, cultural dances and acrobatic displays will be the main activities to focus on as they include artistes who have performed on the international scene.
With five arenas reserved for such activities, show-goers should not expect to have boring moments because performers and exhibitors have prepared adequately.
In music, the Zain-sponsored band stand will be the centre of attraction as Congolese rhumba musician Felix Wazekwa will dance the afternoons away along side local artistes.
Wazekwa will be in the country for the first time and will use the show time to launch his latest album as he wins hearts of local rhumba followers.
Among the local artistes will be Uncle Rex, Lumbani Madoda, Brian Chilala, Angela Nyirenda, Indi K, JK, Bantu Roots, Hanna Tembo, Amayenge, Bob Muli and Green Labels.
In the Chester Dean Arena, a number of acrobatic performances will take place. Among them is callisthenic displays by 500 cadets, cultural panorama, and displays by majorettes and brass bands.
At the cultural stand will be both local and international cultural troupes that will display various dances from all over the continent.
