Man nabbed for attempting to corrupt Zambeef worker
By TEDDY KUYELATHE Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested a Lusaka resident for allegedly attempting to corrupt a Zambeef employee with US$5, 000.
ACC corporate affairs officer Wezzy Chomba confirmed the arrest of Mathew Chanda Mwiko in a statement released in Lusaka yesterday.
Mwiko, 38, of house number 38B Sable Road, Kabulonga in Lusaka, was arrested on July 28, 2010 for attempting to induce a Zambeef employee with US$5, 000 to sell him 5000 metric tonnes of wheat belonging to Zambeef.
Mwiko has been charged with one count of corrupt practices by a private person contrary to section 31(2) of the ACC Act Chapter 91 of the Laws of Zambia.
Particulars of the offence are that on dates unknown but between February 1, 2010 and February 28, 2010 in Lusaka, Mwiko, being a private person, namely a Commodity Broker, corruptly offered US$5, 000 to Danny Museteka to agree to sell him 5,000 metric tonnes of wheat belonging to Zambeef at a price of US$340 per tonne on the Zambia Agricultural Commodities Exchange.
This was despite the price being US$365 per tonne.
Mr Chomba said Mwiko has been released on police bond with two working sureties in the sum of K5 million each.
Mwiko will appear in court for plea on August 10, 2010.
