CHIPOLOPOLO striker Collins Mbesuma’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Highlands Park has been demoted to the National First Division following unimpressive debut season.
Mbesuma joined Highlands Park at the start of the season after leaving Cape Town City formerly Mpumalanga Black Aces.
Highlands finished bottom of the log with 27 points, 33 behind champions Bidvest Wits.
The former Kaizer Chiefs striker, who has netted five goals, was not part of the team that drew 2-2 with Mamelodi Sundowns in their final game of the season on Saturday.
Mothobi Mvala was the club’s top scorer with seven goals.
While Mbesuma has gone down with Highlands, his compatriots at Ajax Cape Town Aubrey Funga and Roderick Kabwe helped the Urban Warriors finish 10th on the log.
Salulani Phiri’s Polokwane City finished sixth while Kennedy Mweene’s Mamelodi Sundowns missed out on the title after finishing second.
Davies Nkausu and Lewis Macha’s teams Free State Stars and Chiefs settled for 14th and fourth positions respectively.
In China, striker James Chamanga helped his side Liaoning Whowin climb to eight on the Chinese Super League log.
Chamanga completed 90 minutes as Whowin battered Yaniban Fude 3-1.
Turkish-based striker Evans Kangwa was part of the Gaziantespor side that was thrashed 4-0 by Besiktas.
Midfielder Lubambo Musonda also featured for Gandzasar Kapan in a 2-1 win over Banants.
