Mbala receives fertiliser

MBALA district in Northern Province has received all its allocation of 45,552 bags of basal dressing for the 2015-2016 farming season.
The 50kg bags will be distributed to the beneficiaries of the farmer input support programme (FISP).
Mbala district agriculture coordinator Boniface Mwalongo said in an interview yesterday that the inputs will soon be distributed to the farmers when urea fertiliser and seed is dispatched to the district.
“We are happy that we have received all the bags of D compound fertiliser allocated to the district for this year’s farming season and it is in our storage shed,” Mr Mwalongo said.
He said the farmers in the district are happy with the early delivery of inputs.
Mr Mwalongo also said government is implementing policies in the agriculture sector aimed at promoting value addition to various farm produce.
He said government wants to ensure that farmers benefit from their agriculture produce by making significant profits.
“We have farmers who grow fruits, vegetables and other farm produce. We want our farmers to package these products nicely. We are teaching them marketing skills to enable them to negotiate for good prices,” Mr Mwalongo said.
