Mbala council buys earth-moving equipment

MBALA District Council has bought earthmoving equipment worth K1.8 million using the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
The local authority has procured a grader, tipper truck, front-end-loader-roller compactor and a water bowser for road maintenance in the district.
Mbala council secretary Ronald Daka said in an interview yesterday that the local authority wants to acquire sufficient earth-moving equipment for road maintenance.
“As a local authority, our mandate is to ensure that Constituency Development Fund is used prudently for the benefit of the people. It is for this reason that we apportioned some of the CDF to procure earthmoving equipment,” Mr Daka said.
He said the new earth-moving equipment will enable the local authority to rehabilitate roads, especially those in rural areas which become impassable during the rainy season.
Mr Daka said a good road network is important for the economic development of Mbala, which is dependent on agriculture.
He also said the municipality is working hard to improve service delivery.
Mr Daka also said an out-patient department and a staff house have been built at a cost of K351,000 at Muzipatsi Rural Health centre using CDF.
He also said laboratory equipment worth K129,000 has been procured for Lucheche Secondary School using CDF
Mr Daka   said the local authority will continue working with residents to identify projects that can be funded using CDF.
He said it is important for Mbala residents to benefit from CDF to improve their lives.
