Mazabuka, Monze schools remain closed

THERE are many cases of child marriages that take place in Nakonde district without the knowledge of relevant authorities. This vice has forced many girls to drop out of school.

THE Ministry of General Education has decided not to open all schools for the second term in Mazabuka and Monze in Southern Province due to an upswing in cholera cases in the two districts.
Ministry of General Education spokesperson Hillary Chipango said the schools will remain closed as authorities from the ministries of General Education and Health continue to closely monitor and assess the situation.
Mr Chipango said in an interview yesterday that the decision was arrived at following advice from Ministry of Health personnel that the schools in Mazabuka and Monze must be delayed for opening.
