Matete to challenge Mpondela again

NOT for the first time, Samuel Matete will attempt to wrestle the presidency of Zambia Athletics (ZA) from the long-serving Elias Mpondela at the association’s next elective annual general meeting.
Matete says Mpondela’s tenure of office will end this month-end and he is looking forward to the AGM billed for the fourth quarter of the year.
The former world champion at 400 metres hurdles said in an interview in Kitwe yesterday that as far as the councillors are concerned, Mpondela’s tenure will elapse on October 1 as stipulated in the constitution.
“We are still waiting for a call-out for the election,” he said. “According to the constitution, elections are to be held after four years and in the last quarter of the final year. So us councillors we are waiting on what they will tell us after October 1.”
