Marijuana trafficking fisher goes in 3 months

A 35-YEAR-OLD fisherman of Sinazongwe has been sentenced to three months imprisonment with hard labour by the Choma Magistrate’s Court for trafficking in two kilogrammes of marijuana.
In this case, Gift Mwansa was charged with trafficking in a psychotropic substance.
Mwansa on November 4 this year in Sinazongwe, trafficked in two kilogrammes of marijuana without lawful authority.
Facts before the court are that on the fateful day, Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) officers in Choma received information that Mwansa was trafficking in suspected marijuana.
The court heard that the DEC officers went to Sinazongwe and Mwansa was found in possession of suspected marijuana in his house.
The court heard that the suspected drugs were taken to the Food and Drugs Control Laboratory at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka where it was confirmed to be marijuana.
Asked whether the facts were correct, Mwansa responded in the affirmative.
In mitigation, Mwansa asked the court to be lenient on him because he has three children and he is the breadwinner of the family.
