THE Zambia Association of Manufacturers (ZAM) chief executive officer Maybin Nsupila says there is need to develop platforms that will help support local manufacturers, who are unable to develop quality and competitive products on the local and international markets.
Mr Nsupila said Zambia has vast companies specialised in the production of various products, but most of them need to be supported to enable them develop.
He said during the Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) National Open Forum on the promotion of locally-produced goods on the Zambian market that some producers are also struggling to develop their businesses because they don’t adhere to the production systems required.
Mr Nsupila also called for enhanced collaboration among the manufacturing community to enable them to undertake consumer requirements and market needs, especially when producing products.
“We have a lot of companies that require a lot of help when it comes to producing quality products for both the local and international markets. These people need assistance, and this help should not be isolated, as you are aware, most local manufacturing firms are still struggling when it comes to producing quality products,” he said.
Mr Nsupila said Zambians have the potential to produce products that can compete on local and regional markets, but there is need to certify their products with ZABS.
