Mansa farmers get e-vouchers

MINISTER of Health Chitalu Chilufya.

GOVERNMENT has delivered 5,828 e-vouchers to farmers in Mansa district in Luapula Province and cleared the outstanding payments of K10.3 million to farmers who sold their maize to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) in the 2015/2016 farming season.
Mansa Central Member of Parliament Chitalu Chilufya said yesterday the e-vouchers will cater for about 50 percent of the farmers and will enable them to start collecting farming inputs from various agro-dealers immediately.
“The other 50 percent will be distributed within the next two to three days. The distribution has been delayed a bit because of the transitional period in which we are since we are just coming from an election, but it is regrettable and we are certain that the next season will be smoother,” he said.
Dr Chilufya, who is Minister of Health, said Government will support agriculture because it is key to food security and nutrition.
He said to show how committed it is, 4,100 farmers who were being owed by the FRA in the district have been paid and over 90 percent of them have already collected their money.
