POLICE in Mwinilunga district in North-Western Province have arrested a 45-year-old man of Chibala Village in Senior Chief Kanong’esha’s area to help with
investigations in the murder of his wife, whom he suspected of having an extra-marital affair.
North-Western Province commissioner of police Auxensio Daka said in an interview yesterday that the incident happened between July 1, 2017 and July 2, 2017 at around 08:00 hours in Sakapoti School area.
The deceased was identified as Rose Katilungu, 38, and the suspect as Nyamusana Kawalwa.
“The matter was reported by Emmanuel Kamunyawu of Muhitanganyi village, who told police officers that his cousin was murdered by the husband. The motive behind the killing of his wife is that he suspected she had an extra-marital affair with another man,” Mr Daka said.
He said an axe handle and a stick were allegedlly used in the murder.
“The deceased sustained bruises on the chest, stomach, left leg and suffered a swollen left hand,” Mr Daka said.
He said police visited the scene and advised relatives to proceed with burial, but the body was later exhumed to conduct a postmortem to establish the cause of death.
“The postmortem report is not yet ready but the suspect has been arrested and is yet to be charged with murder,” Mr Daka said.
