Man, divorced, ordered to compensate wife K8,000

A WOMAN of Lusaka’s Kamwala South narrated how her husband moved another woman into their matrimonial home while she was away at a funeral.
Bridget Munego, 38, told Chilenje Local Court senior magistrate Sharon Sichone that she was hurt to learn that her husband had actually even engaged the woman in question.
“I learnt from the woman’s relatives that the two were even engaged and were only waiting  to meet with my husband’s relatives,” Munego said in a case she sued her husband Ouster Mwene, 43, of Kalingalinga for divorce.
The duo got married in 1998 and have three children together.
Munego said the woman’s relatives demanded that Mwene marries the other woman.  Fortunately, Munego and her husband were transferred to Mwinilunga.
Thinking she had left her troubles in Lusaka, Munego found herself face to face with Mwene’s infidelity when she caught him making love to another woman in his office.
“The woman whom I found in the office with my husband is engaged.  Her fiancé even sued Mwene though I defended him and he was only charged K150,” she said.
Munego said Mwene’s love for women drove him to even sire a child outside marriage which led to them being on separation for two years.
But for Mwene, problems in their marriage started when his wife completed her tertiary education.
He also complained that his wife abandoned him when he was admitted in hospital for over two months following a road accident adding that she only visited him for a week.
Passing judgment, the court dissolved the marriage saying it was irretrievable.
The court ordered Mwene to compensate Munego K8,000.
