A CHUNGA resident has complained before the Matero local court how her husband always spends nights away from home each time he has money.
This in a matter in which Tina Mbulo 30 of Lilanda township sued Kelly Phiri for marriage reconciliation.
Facts before the court were that the two got married in 2013 and have two children together and bride price was paid.
Testifying before magistrate Pauline Newa sitting with Miyanda Banda, Mbulo said her husband is irresponsible.
“My husband always comes home at 01:00 hours whenever he has money. We enjoy our marriage but whenever he does some piece work and gets some money, he drinks carelessly and spends nights away from home,” she said.
She told the court that she pays rentals for three months.
Mbulo lamented that her husband has refused to change despite several attempts to counsel him by members of the two families.
But Phiri on the other hand denied the allegations and told the court that Mbulo is the source problems in their marriage.
He accused his wife of drinking excessively when he leaves money for her to buy food at home.
“Problems in my marriage started in 2016 when my wife started drinking carelessly. Each time I leave money, she invites her friends and they go to a bar to drink and leaving my children hungry.
“There was a time when I left her with K 800 and she blew it on beer on the same day,” Phiri said.
In his submissions Phiri told the court that he does not want to reconcile with Mbulo because of her careless drinking.
In passing judgement, the court dismissed the claim for reconciliation and instead granted a divorce. The defendant was ordered to compensate the plaintiff with K 10, 000 and K 300 child maintenance.
