‘Maize briefcase buyers exploiting farmers’

SOME unscrupulous briefcase businessmen and women are on rampage exploiting unsuspecting farmers in Choma by buying a 50 kilogramme bag of maize at K40 each.

Ministry of Agriculture is, however, happy that most farmers are selling their commodity to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) adding that the move dispels claims that farmers are holding on to their maize until the floor price is increased from the current K60.
Ministry of Agriculture senior district technical officer Kelvin Siisii said investigations around Choma district have revealed that dishonest businessmen and women are buying maize from farmers below the FRA floor price of K60 per 50kg bag.
