THE role of police is to maintain law and order through the use of any means available, including force in situations where there is resistance, Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja has reminded stakeholders. And Mr Kanganja has called on the Church to work closely with police to maintain peace during and after next month’s general election. Mr Kanganja said during an interaction session with the Lusaka Ministers’ Fellowship that police are concerned about the continued political violence and non-adherence to COVID-19 protocols. “This is what prompted my command to issue a directive on the need for officers to use minimum force as provided under the laws on those who choose the path of abrogating the laws,” he said. Mr Kanganja assured stakeholders that police will effectively deal with any form of violence as the country draws closer to the August 12 general elections. “With support from various stakeholders like the church, I am confident that police will deliver a peaceful election,” he said.
