Magistrate sends Kitwe rapist to high court

THE Kitwe Magistrate’s Court has convicted a 20-year-old man of Kitwe’s Bulangililo for taking turns  with his two friends to defile a 15-year-old girl.
This is in a case in which Justine Jere was charged with defilement.
Jere is alleged to have carried out the despicable act on June 17 this year in Kitwe.
He denied the charge.
Magistrate Daniel Musonda said the State  had managed to prove a case of defilement against Jere.
“I find you guilty as charged and I convict you accordingly. I send you to the High Court for sentencing because the offence you have been convicted of carries a minimum sentence of 15 years which is beyond my sentencing powers,” Mr Musonda said.
During trial, the victim told the court that on the fateful day around 19:00 hours, she was on her way home from visiting her grandmother in Bulangililo township when she met three men.
The court heard that the men asked her where she was going.
She narrated that one of the men grabbed and took her behind Bulangililo Primary School, produced a knife and threatened to kill her if she screamed.
“One of them covered my mouth with his hands while the other one was [raping] me,” she told the court. She all the three men took turns in raping her.
The girl narrated that she failed to walk after the ordeal; however, she was rescued by two men.
She recalled that the men took her to the police station where she was issued with a medical report to enable her to seek treatment.
