Magistrate recuses self in rhino case

LIVINGSTONE chief resident magistrate Willie Sinyangwe has recused himself from handling a case involving two senior local court magistrates and three others charged with unlawful possession of rhino horns.
In this case, Elvis Maya Siakachoma, 44, Active Tambo, 46, who are both senior local magistrates, David Mununga, 66, an estate agent, Mwala Mwendanei, 39, and Sydney Mulenga, 31, both businessmen, are accused of stealing two rhino horns.
The five are jointly charged with unlawful possession of prescribed trophy.
On October 3 this year in Livingstone, the five were allegedly found with two pieces of rhino horns weighing 7.125 kilogrammes without a certificate of ownership.
