LWSC’s delay to install meters retrogressive

Dear editor,
I WRITE to complain on behalf of Meanwood Ndeke residents over the attitude by Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC) to delay in installing meter boxes in Meanwood Ndeke and Vorna Valley near Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.

The Chinese contractor finished laying the water pipes and is now in Kwamwena. We were advised to pay a sum of K1,000 and sign a consent form to install the meter at each residential plot.
We are surprised that despite residents paying the K1,000 to LWSC, nothing has been done.
Moreover, it was a hassle to make the payments as per agreement, because LWSC demanded full payment and it was non-negotiable. With this inefficiency, we have no option but to air our displeasure through the newspaper.
It should be noted that most residents have dug boreholes on their respective plots and, as such, they have little interest in having water from LWSC as it will simply be a monthly expense.
In view of the above, we request LWSC to speed up installing meter boxes so that water can start flowing.
Can the ministers of Local Government and Lusaka Province please get in touch with the water utility company? It should also be noted that the contract is not from the Zambian government but the Americans.
