Luwingu to get communication towers next year

TEDDY KUYELA, Lusaka
GOVERNMENT says the construction of communication towers in Chief Chipalo’s area and Sub-Chief Mucheleka’s area in Luwingu in Northern Province will commence in April next year.
Deputy Minister of Transport, Works, Supply and Communications Panji Kaunda said the mapping of the area to determine the number of towers required has commenced.
Mr Kaunda told Parliament on Friday in response to a question from Lubansenshi member of Parliament (MP) Patrick Mucheleka (Independent), who wanted to know when Government will facilitate the construction of communication towers in the two areas.
Mr Kaunda said Government is determined to ensure all parts of the country have communication towers to improve standards of living.
“Mr Speaker, this project is commencing in April next year and it is expected to be completed in 2016.
“At the moment, we are doing the mapping to determine the number of towers that will be required to be installed in the area. After determining the number of towers required, we will tender so that construction works can commence,” Mr Kaunda said.
Meanwhile, deputy Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya said Lumwana hospital in Solwezi West constituency will be opened to the public soon.
Dr Chilufya said Government has already connected the hospital to the national grid and that it will soon be opened to provide quality healthcare services to the people.
The deputy minister said this in response to a question from Solwezi West MP Humphrey Mwanza (UPND), who wanted to know when the hospital would be electrified.
Dr Chilufya said the hospital was connected to the national grid on September 4, this year, and that it is ready for public use.
