THE Lusaka July, an annual event that combines fashion with the sport of polo hosted by PR Girl Media, won the Event of the Year at last week’s Grand Awards meant to celebrate and honour the best in the Zambian Fashion and Modeling industry.
The Lusaka July, held on July 14 at the Lusaka Polo Club under the fashion theme ‘Colony of Wealth’, saw hundreds of fashion and polo enthusiasts turn up in luxurious outfits.
As promised, the event was not short of glamour and celebrity attention with mega stars such as Ghanaian actress Nadia Buari, South African television star Maps Maponyane, Dillish Matthews from Namibia, Cleo Ice Queen, Macky II, Chef 187, Mampi and Bombshell, among others.
Afro-Jazz singer James Sakala was one of the entertainers at the event alongside Kuni, Afro Red, DJ Sebastien Dutch, El Mukuka and DJ V Jeezy.
The inaugural Lusaka July was held in July 2016 under the theme ‘Polo-Glam’ and was followed up with another one the following year, which caught attention within the fashion and entertainment industry with South Africa celebrity Boity Thulo in attendance.
Following the hosting of this year’s event, the organisers said they believed that the incorporation of corporate entities in the Lusaka July has proved that the event has the potential to expand the reach of lifestyle events throughout Zambia, promoting tourism, including Zambian luxury products and services.
“It is undeniable that Lusaka July 2018 is a welcomed initiative in the entertainment industry and has won the hearts of not only socialites and celebrities but also the corporates,” PR Girl Media managing partners Monde and Chishimba Nyambe, the sister-duo who are co-founders of the event, said in the statement.
While Lusaka July emerged as Best Event of the year, Davies Tony of Tony Media got the Best Fashion Photographer, with Chisomo Lombe of Chizo Designs getting the Best Fashion Designer at the ceremony that was held at Government Complex in Lusaka.
Naomi Banda of Unathi Model Agency got the Best Model Manager while Salifyanji Namonje walked away with the Most Promising New Model Award with singer Kuni getting the Most Fashionable Celebrity and HP Productions the Best Supporting Company.
Sarah Mwenya got the Best Make-Up Artist, Power FM the Media Fashion Award, Cecilia Kongwa – the Model of the Year and Siphiwe Benasho – the Outstanding Achievement Award.
