PRESIDENT Lungu’s foreign trips are important for enticing investors who would help develop Zambia, Patriotic Front (PF) Roan constituency chairman Nebat Matatiyo has said.
Mr Matatiyo said that instead of condemning the President’s foreign tours of duty, as some opposition political parties are doing, they should be commending him for attracting quality investors.
He said in an interview yesterday that the critics should understand that such trips are beneficial for Zambia’s economic development of Zambia, as they are meant to woo foreign investors.
“Why should they criticise such important trips the head of State undertakes? President Lungu has been in office for a year now so, it is important that he travels to other countries to attract investors.  As the head of State he is the head marketer of this country,” Mr Matatiyo said.
“Zambia is a Christian nation, so it is important that the President visited the Vatican City which is the spiritual and governing centre of the Roman Catholic Church,” he said.
He said the trips to France and Italy that the President recently undertook may not seem to bear fruits now but benefits will be seen in the near future.
“You can see that the trip to these foreign countries is a source of a lot of benefits, some benefits may not be seen now but later in the near future. President Lungu must be  commended  for  his initiative to market  Zambia to the outside World, and I hope  by now some investors from these countries that the President visited  are now making  plans to invest in Zambia” he said.
Mr Matatiyo advised opposition political parties to offer constructive criticisms.
“They [opposition political parties] must not just criticise for the sake of criticising, the opposition political parties should learn to give constructive criticisms if this country is to move forward socially, politically and also economically,” he said
Meanwhile, Mr Matatiyo said Roan constituents are ready to give President Lungu 100 percent votes in the August 11 general elections because he has delivered on many of his campaign promises.
He also said that over 100 people from various political parties in Roan constituency have defected to the ruling PF.
He said the defectors are from United Party for National Development, Rainbow Party and MMD.
In Lufwanyama, residents have also assured President Lungu of their support during this year’s general elections.
The residents are happy with President Lungu’s development agenda, which is focused on improving infrastructure in rural areas for the benefit of the people.
Lufwanyama district PF chairperson, Justine Mulenga said the people of Lufwanyama are particularly happy with the infrastructure development taking place in the district.
“The people here are full of praise for President Lungu. They have pledged to support him during the general elections. The people are happy that Government is constructing schools, clinics and rehabilitating feeder roads in the district,” Mr Mulenga said.
Mr Mulenga has also warned party members in the district against claiming that the party has adopted them to contest as members of Parliament.
