Lungu dissolves Chikopa tribunal

JIMMY CHIBUYE – Lusaka
PRESIDENT Lungu has dissolved the Lovemore Chikopa tribunal and lifted the suspensions of High Court justices Nigel Mutuna and Charles Kajimanga.
According to a consent judgment signed by the Supreme Court judges and entered by Attorney General and lawyers representing the two judges, the President also directed that justices Mutuna and Kajimanga continue to discharge their functions as High Court judges.
The consent judgement was signed on Wednesday by Supreme Court judges Gregory Phiri, Munyinda Wanki and Elizabeth Muyovwe.
Justices Mutuna and Kajimanga, together with retired Supreme Court judge Phillip Musonda, were suspended by President Sata in 2012 who appointed a tribunal to probe their professional misconduct.
“His Excellency the President has since dissolved the honorauble Lovemore Chikopa led tribunal and subsequently revoked the suspension of the respondents and directed that the two judges continue to discharge their functions as puisne judges,” the judgement states.
The Supreme Court set aside the suspension of justice Mutuna and Kajimanga following the judgement by Kabwe High Court judge-in-charge Mwiinde Siavwapa to lift their suspension last year.
