Luangwa-Feira road to gobble K9.6m

THE Road Development Agency (RDA) says Government will spend about K9.6 million to repair the damaged section of the Luangwa-Feira road and not K2.6 as earlier reported in the media.
And RDA says the construction of a diversion on the damaged section of the road has been completed and has been opened to traffic intervals.
RDA director for communication and corporate affairs Loyce Saili said in a statement yesterday that the work on the damaged section included the removal of unstable material from the mountain, creation of platforms, benching of the slope and reinstatement of the road pavement.
“The agency wishes to clarify that the earlier figure that was reported in the media is an error and the agency wishes to apologise to all stakeholders for any inconvenience that this error has caused,” Mrs Saili said.
“Traffic will be allowed daily on the affected section from 06:00 to 07:00 hours in the morning and from 12:00 to 13:00 hours in the afternoon. The partial opening of the road is to allow movement of goods and people across the damaged section and at the same times provide the contractor with adequate time to work,” she said.
On February 13, 2017, a section of the Luangwa-Feira road was damaged following a mini-scale landslide.
