Lombe Kamukoshi: From teacher to career policewoman

IT IS not often that a teacher leaves the classroom to take up a job as a police officer. But as tough as police work may look, that’s where Lillian Lombe Bwalya Kamukoshi’s heart went.
After serving for two years, Ms Kamukoshi resigned from teaching to join the Zambia Police Service because she was looking for a challenging career.
Coming from an all-boys family (four boys and one girl), Ms Kamukoshi wanted to stand out.
“I wanted to be in control, I wanted a career which was challenging, manish [masculine],” she says.
It was a decision her parents received with mixed reactions.
