MONTHS of practice and professional mentoring came to an exciting end on Wednesday evening at the Dreams Music Talent Search season four finale.
The show took place at the Best Western Plus Lusaka Grand Hotel and featured past winners of the competition from the last few years.
The stage was warmed up by the first ever winner of Dreams Zambia, Shadrock, who performed his song, Niwe Weka.
The winner of season two, Mumba followed Shadrock’s performance with a sultry rendition of Beyonce’s, If I were a Boy.
Season three winner, Lisa, then stepped onto the stage for her delivery of the old time favourite, Killing Me Softly.
Her performance paved way for season four participant and finalist on the night, Shekinah. She sang an emotional rendition of Zahara’s, Impilo which warmed the audience.
The second season four finalist, Lombe, impressively belted away Miriam Makeba’s Hapo Zamani and showed her voice could sound older than her age.
Dreams season four judge gave her a nod and told her she sang it like she was singing with her mother back in the day.
The third finalist, Hush performed Macky II’s Lolo Lolo which had much of the audience on its feet.
The judges of the show praised him afterwards for being the first rapper in the competition.
It was not just the finalists who demonstrated their vocal ability before the excited audience; Dreams judge Kuni, who is also a member of Uncle Rex and the band shared a lively performance of his song, Nikudala.
The finalists returned for their last individual performances before the official announcement of the season four winner was made.
Hush got the most cheers for his creative spin on Pontiano Kaiche’s, Bana Mulenga, while Shekinah’s delivery of Yemi Alade’s Johnny did not feel exactly suitable for the finale of a singing contest.
She did not make it into any of the top two slots which were announced soon after Shadrock sang Adele’s, Hello.
Before the winner was announced, season two winner Lombe gave her second performance of the night by doing justice to Joyce Nyirongo’s, Mate.
Judge Kenny T, said he hated to be the bearer of bad news before he finally broke to everyone present that Lombe was the winner of Dreams Zambia season four.
While Hush’s fans were left disappointed, Lombe remained reveling in her victory and ended the night K30, 000 richer.
