‘Local language teaching instils good values’

Government complex.

GOVERNMENT has made a lot of progress in using local languages as a mode of instruction in lower grades in the country’s education system, Ministry of General Education acting permanent secretary Christine Mayondi has said.
Mrs Mayondi said in Lusaka on Tuesday that it is encouraging that from early childhood education to grade four, the mode of instruction for literacy and other subject areas are the seven zonal local languages.
“The reports that we have from the field have revealed that the use of familiar language has helped instil good values and hygiene for learners,” Mrs Mayondi said during the ministry’s joint annual review technical meeting.
