‘Local, foreign investors should partner in Lufwanyama’

GOVERNMENT has committed to attract foreign investors to partner with the local small-scale gemstone miners to revamp the dormant sector in Lufwanyama to contribute to creation of jobs and wealth to attain economic growth.

The programme to merge gemstone miners in Lufwanyama is likely to start in the first quarter of 2018.

Ministry of Mines permanent secretary Paul Chanda said the augmenting of emerald miners will result in merging a maximum of 10 small-scale miners per investment cluster.
“Effective January next year, we will pilot merging of small-scale miners into groups of 10. A lot of activities will happen in the first quarter of 2018,” Mr Chanda said.
