MODEL Liyah Phiri, 26, won the Best National Costume Award as well as the World Miss Tourism Ambassador Africa at the just-ended World Miss Tourism Ambassador 2018 in Phatthalung, Thailand.The World Miss Tourism Ambassador 2018 attracted more than 100 contestants from 52 countries from across the world.
Africa was represented at the event by contestants from Cameroon, Namibia and Zambia.
The first glamorous stages of the contest started in Vietnam from July 25- 30 and continued in Thailand until August 8 when the grand finale was held.
Liyah emerged winner among African contestants to be crowned World Miss Tourism Ambassador Africa, which will see her fly the continental tourism banner around the globe for the next 12 months.
Liyah, with four other winners for their respective continents namely; America, Asia, Australia and Europe, walked away with US$500 prize money, medals and an endorsements for assortment of brand products.
“We did it. I feel so proud that I am putting Zambia on the world map,” Liyah exclaimed in a posting. “I got World Miss Tourism Ambassador Africa. Thank you everyone for your support.”
Mo Phan from Vietnam was crowned the overall winner of the World Miss Tourism Ambassador 2018 while Sudaporm Wongsasiripat from Thailand won the first runner-up title.
The second runner-up was grabbed by Maria Elena Antelo Molina from Bolivia while Aterdene Gunzaya from Mongolia won the third runner-up title.
Other winners were Hong Kong’s Lin Taiyang who scooped the World Miss Tourism Queen Ambassador 2018.
Fernanda Andrea Caro Zarate from Chile emerged winner as the World Miss Culture Ambassador 2018.
Other respective categories were won by competing countries; Miss Social Media – Malaysia, Miss Charity Ambassador – South Korea, Best in Tourism Dress – Vietnam, Miss Perfect Skin – Kiev, Best in Catwalk – Bulacan, Best in Resort wear – Armenia and Miss Ansai won by the Philippines.

The World Miss Tourism Ambassador Pageant has been conceptualised as a prestigious international event, bringing together representatives from seven different continents to identify and showcase the world’s best tourism cultures, goodwill, protection programmes and destination promotions.
