TWO members of the same family were burnt to death while another two are nursing serious injuries in a hospital in Kawambwa district in Luapula Province when a house caught fire after being struck by lightning during heavy rains.
Provincial commissioner of police Hudson Namachila said in an interview yesterday that the lightning struck a house, which caught fire, and that Mable Chama, 14, and Jenny Chama, 12, died in the fire, which also left Nora Mwila, 22, and Lucia Mambwe, 8, unconscious.
“We received a report of sudden and unnatural deaths where two girls were struck by lightning leaving the other two unconscious. The house they were in caught fire and the two girls were burnt to death,” Mr Namachila said.
He said the other two are admitted to Kanengo Rural Health Centre in Kawambwa.
Lightning has killed more than 20 people this month in Muchinga, Luapula, Central and Eastern provinces.
