Lighting streets will reduce crime

Dear editor,
THE Lusaka City Council and other local authorities have a role to play in reducing crime by ensuring that all the streets are lit.
The absence of streetlights encourages people who have nothing to do to attack residents.
Darkness is the reason why citizens cannot walk after 17:00 hours for fear of being mugged.
Imagine residents of Kabwata and Kamwala fearing to walk from town to their residential areas for fear of being mugged because the streets are dark.
Local authorities should ensure their districts are well lit as one of the measures to fight crime.
