Let’s be patriotic – Chungu

Zambia's Parliament building.

KELVIN CHONGO, Parliament
THE parliamentary committee on legal affairs, governance, human rights, gender matters and child affairs says all Zambians must be patriotic and love their country.
Committee chairperson Bwalya Chungu told Parliament that citizens must find a common ground and build bridges.

Mr Chungu told Parliament that President Lungu has urged all Zambians to endeavour to show patriotism to Zambia by taking deliberate actions to understand and interpret the country’s emblems.
“The national values and principles should be the foundation of the country and dominate the behaviour of individuals and institutions,” he said.
The parliamentarian challenged Zambians to apply national values so that the country can have citizens of high integrity.
Mr Chungu also stressed the need for the country to address lacunas in the Constitution.
He said his committee appreciates the view expressed by stakeholders that the Bill of Rights should be enhanced without delay.
Mr Chungu was presenting a report on the committee on legal affairs, governance, human rights, gender matters and child affairs, which was adopted by the House.
