AGRICONA Limited, an international firm specialised in agricultural consultancy, says land tenure and lack of affordable finance is a major challenge affecting the expansion and development of the agriculture sector in Zambia.
Company director Jon McLea called for effective involvement by African governments to identify tangible solutions that will help address challenges affecting the growth of agriculture.
Mr McLea said ahead of the Agribusiness Congress East Africa in Kampala, Uganda this week, that access to finance is still exorbitant and most small-scale farmers do not have collateral to access loans from commercial banks.
