Land dispute leads to death

CHOMBA MUSIKA – Choma
POLICE in Kalomo have arrested two men of Siamanyuma village for allegedly murdering their relative whom they hit on the head with a stool over a piece of land.
Southern Province commissioner of police Mary Chikwanda said yesterday that the incident happened last Saturday at Siamanyuma village.
Ms Chikwanda identified the deceased as Current Mukonka.
She said Mr Mukonka died at a local hospital where he was nursing head injuries.
“On December 14 this year, Positive Hachitema of Siamanyuma village reported that his son Current Mukonka of the same village was beaten by two relatives identified as Cenicios and Reuben Siamavumba, also of Siamanyuma village, after a land dispute.
“Mukonka, who was allegedly beaten and became unconscious, was rushed to hospital where he died the following day…a stool is believed to have been used to inflict injuries on the deceased,” Ms Chikwanda said.
She said police have detained the two suspects.
And a 42-year-old man of Hakalinda village in Choma has committed suicide by drinking a cattle-dipping chemical.
Ms Chikwanda identified the deceased as Lawrence Hafuti of Chandamali.
