LAFARGE Zambia and the Pan African Building Society (PABS) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to empower those in the middle to lower-income brackets to access mortgage facilities for construction.
Lafarge Zambia chief financial officer Chrissie Moloseni is optimistic that the partnership will lead to a more flexible and diverse products offering, especially for civil servants.
Mrs Moloseni said the initiative will enable potential borrowers’ access PABS home construction products at competitive lending rates across the country.
This is according to a statement issued by Lafarge Zambia stakeholder relations officer Gift Danga and availed to the Daily Mail recently.
“Our customers will also save, as better financial and project planning would be available through our technical team who will ensure that the houses are more compact, durable and beautiful,” she said.
Earlier, PABS chief executive officer Mkuzo Kuwani said there is need for stakeholders to create initiatives to empower the public through provision of low-cost building programmes such as technical advice.
Similarly, Lafarge Zambia marketing director Kaziwe Kaulule said entering into partnerships with micro-finance organisations is one of Lafarge’s initiatives under the Affordable Housing Programme to help reduce the housing deficit in the country which stands at about three million.
