ALLOW me space in your newspaper to commend Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) for convening a meeting with political parties on the need to adhere to traffic regulations during campaigns.
This is a progressive move by RTSA considering the lawlessness that is being exhibited by cadres during campaigns.
Most of these cadres have been abrogating traffic rules with impunity by, for instance, climbing on roof tops of mobile vehicles. Over-speeding and disregard of other motorists has been the order of the day.
It is good that major political parties whose cadres are the major culprits have committed to ensuring their members adhere to road safety regulations. It is actually in the parties’ interest to safeguard the lives of their voters against accidents.
The leaders who represented the parties at this important indaba should now disseminate the resolve to members at the grass-roots because this is where the problem stems from.
As members of the public and voters we await to see implementation of this resolution. We will be watching.
