CONGRATULATIONS to Chipolopolo for beating Uganda in the first game of the CHAN tournament in Morocco on Sunday.
Judging from their performance in the first half, Uganda are among the best teams at the tournament.
They tormented Zambia and created numerous scoring chances that they could not, however, utilise especially in the first stanza.
On the other hand, Chipolopolo were dangerous in attack led by the swift winger, Ernst Mbewe. Little wonder the first goal was Mbewe’s creation.
The other wing, however, also came alive in the second half and so Uganda had to contend with danger from both wings.
Going forward, Zambia’s defender Fackson Kapumbu must do more defending and get tighter with his opponent as he proved to be a weak link in the first half.
Much as we appreciate his dangerous free-kicks and throw-ins, they are secondary to his principle duty of defending.
Coach Wedson Nyirenda can do better to consider replacing one of the duo defensive midfielders with an attacking midfielder/playmaker like Larry Bwalya to add more impetus to offensive play. Otherwise the objective must be to beat Ivory Coast in the next game to seal qualification to the next round.
