Kitwe to host ZAFTAR awards

SALUBUSA

KELVIN KACHINGWE, Lusaka
THE second Zambia Film, Television and Radio Awards (ZAFTAR), which are organised by the National Association of Media Arts, will be held on the Copperbelt in what the organisers say is an effort to give them a national character.
NAMA chairman Patrick ‘Sauloshi’ Salubusa announced at a press briefing at New Government Complex in Lusaka on Monday that the awards will be held at Kitwe’s Metro Cinema on November 13, 2015.
The inaugural awards were held at the New Government Complex in Lusaka last December.
“I am happy to inform the nation that the Ministry of Tourism and Arts, through the National Arts Council of Zambia, has already paid for the venue while the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services has agreed to pay for the trophies,” Sauloshi said.
“As an association we are confirming to you that top Copperbelt based entertainers, comedian Bob Nkosha of the Dorika fame and musician Marky II, will perform at the awards night.
“Since the awards night has not yet received any funding from the corporate world, I [Sauloshi], the NAMA president and my secretary general Isaac Chamba will be the masters of ceremonies for the event at no cost at all.”
NAMA patron and Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services Chishimba Kambwili will be the guest of honour.
The association is appealing to the corporate world for support to go towards the prizes, transport, accommodation and adverts for radio and television.
“Deadline for submission of entries is 30th September, 2015 and only paid-up NAMA members are eligible to make their submissions and these products should be TV, film and radio drama products which were not entered last year.
“Therefore, as an association, we encourage all broadcasting and production houses as well as individual artists wishing to participate in this year’s ZAFTAR week to pay membership fee to NAMA,” the chairman said.
