Kitwe defiler gets 18yrs behind bars

CHRISTINE CHIHAME – Kitwe
A 45-YEAR-OLD man of Kitwe’s Wusakile has been sentenced to 18 years imprisonment with hard labour by the Kitwe High Court for defiling his daughter’s 14-year-old friend.
This was in a case in which Peter Phiri of house number C4-135 was charged with defilement.
Phiri on June 8 this year in Kitwe, had unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl under the age of 16.
Passing the sentence, judge Chilombo Phiri said the State had proved its case against Phiri beyond reasonable doubt.
Mrs Justice said the girl had no reasons to falsely implicate Phiri.
“I sentence you to 18 years imprisonment with hard labour,” Mrs Justice Phiri said.
She granted Phiri leave to appeal to the High Court within 14 days.
During trial, the court heard that on the fateful evening around 19:00 hours, the girl was on her way home from visiting Phiri’s daughter when he followed and asked her where she was going.
The court heard that Phiri grabbed and dragged the girl into a deserted road and defiled her.
The court heard that Phiri threatened to kill the girl if she dared tell anyone that he had defiled her.
