KCM power disconnection stopped

MWILA NTAMBI, Kitwe
COPPERBELT Energy Corporation (CEC) has rescinded its decision to stop supplying power to Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) following Government’s call for a meeting to resolve the impasse, managing director Owen Silavwe has said.
On Monday, CEC reduced the amount of power supplied to KCM after a contract between the two parties expired on Sunday and the alleged unwillingness by KCM to settle a bill of US$144 million.
In an interview yesterday, Mr Silavwe said CEC had by mid-morning on Monday started the process of discontinuing power supply to KCM but stopped in the afternoon after Government asked it to do so.
