Kasempa to have 23 solar-powered milling plants

GOVERNMENT through the Zambia Co-operative Federation (ZCF) is spearheading the construction of 23 solar-powered milling plants in Kasempa district and surrounding areas in North-Western Province.
North-Western Province permanent secretary, Ephraim Mateyo said the solar-powered milling plants, which are under the presidential empowerment initiative, will benefit the local people in the province.
North-Western Province permanent secretary, Ephraim Mateyo said the measure is expected to increase economic activities in Kasempa and surrounding areas and will further create employment for the local people.
Speaking in a speech read for him by Kasempa district administration officer, Kelvin Ndandanda at the district agricultural show held under the theme, “Managing the environment for growth”, Mr Mateyo said milling plants are aimed at reducing the price of mealie-meal as well as increasing cereal production.
And North-Western Province agricultural co-ordinator, Derrick Simukanze urged farmers to increase their tillage to sustain the operations of the hammer mills.
