Kasama/Nakonde power link needs $70m

GOVERNMENT says about US$70 million is needed to finance the construction of the Kasama/Nakonde transmission line to link Zambia to the East African Power Pool.
The Eastern African Power Pool was established to facilitate and secure power supply to the Eastern African region at a lowest possible cost.
Minister of Energy Matthew Nkhuwa said the Kasama/Nakonde transmission line is part of the Zambia-Tanzania-Kenya (ZTK) interconnection, which is key in facilitating trade in electricity in the region and promote power systems stability.
In an interview last week, Mr Nkhuwa said it is important to promote power interconnection across the continent to facilitate the creation of a market to stimulate development of new power generation projects and export potential.
“We have completed the construction of the transmission line from Pensulo to Kasama. We are discussing with stakeholders on how to execute the project
