Kasama airport works to be accelerated

HENRY SINYANGWE, Kasama
GOVERNMENT says it expects accelerated construction works at Kasama Airport in Northern Province following the release of funds for completing the project.
And Government is on course with ensuring that Samora Machel Airport in Mbala is commercialised to increase tourists’ visits to the northern tourism circuit.
Northern Province Minister Brian Mundubile said in an interview last week that completing construction works at Kasama Airport will open up the northern tourism circuit and enhance revenue collection through increased tourists’ visits to the area.
“We expect accelerated construction works at Kasama Airport. Once the rainy season comes to an end, we expect the contractor to get back on site,” he said.
And Mr Mundubile said Government will commercialise Samora Machel Airport in Mbala to open up the northern tourism cuircuit.
He said Government will construct a road to the airport away from the Zambia Air Force camp because currently the only route to the airport is through the camp.
“The commercialisation of the airport and the construction of a road from Mbala to Kasaba Bay will open up the area and attract tourists. The Kasaba Bay development will act as an anchor project in opening up the area,” Mr Mundubile said.
