Kapata vows to protect her Forest 27 plot

IF EVER former Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Jean Kapata goes down over Forest 27, it will not certainly be without a fight.
Ms Kapata, who was Minister of Lands at the time Forest 27 was de-gazetted in 2019 by former President Edgar Lungu to pave way for housing and lifestyle developments, has admitted owning a plot at the nature reserve but has vowed to protect it at all costs.
“Because I was minister there, I have [a plot at Forest 27], am I not a Zambian?” she asked. “I am Zambian entitled to have land. Zambia is my country, I don’t belong to any other country, and Zambia is home.
“I have a piece of land there. I applied just like any other Zambian, full stop. You can’t ask me a question to say, ‘did you acquire that land in a right manner?’ What do you mean? I have told you, I have a plot there and I acquired it in the rightful manner.”
