Kalaba extends TP Mazembe deal

Lusaka, Ndola
NATIONAL team skipper Rainford Kalaba has extended his contract with Democratic Republic of Congo giants TP Mazembe by two years and is delighted to remain at the Lubumbashi-based side.
Chipolopolo midfielder Nathan Sinkala has also extended his contract with TP Mazembe by two years.
According to a statement posted on the club’s website on Monday, the deals will run until December 31, 2018.
Kalaba is enjoying top form and guided TP Kazembe to the 2016 Confederation Cup.
The 30-year-old midfielder was top scorer in the continent’s second tier competition with eight goals.
Kalaba banged in 13 goals for TP Mazembe in the national league before the Government halted it due to unrest in the Central African nation.
Kalaba is also in the running for the 2016 African player-of-the-year award for players plying their trade on the continent.
Others battling for the award are South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango and midfielder Khama Biliat.
The awards ceremony will take place in Abuja, Nigeria, tomorrow.
“With the TPM, I have had my best season winning the trophy [Confederation Cup] that was missing in the team’s cabinet. I feel very proud. But I could not have done it without my team-mates, who helped me finish as top scorer in the competition,” Kalaba said.
He joined Mazembe in 2010.
He has won twelve trophies including five league titles, three DR Congo Super Cups, CAF Champions League, Confederations Cup and two CAF Super Cups.
And Mazembe have described Kalaba’s decision to extend his deal as exciting.
“The TPM is very pleased to announce the contract extensions for two additional years of Rainford Kalaba and Nathan Sinkala. The two Zambian internationals are now linked to the club until December 31, 2018.
“The extension of the maestro [Kalaba]’s contract is another testament of the important role he has played for the Ravens.”
