MWILA NTAMBI, Kitwe
THE matter in which Patriotic Front (PF) Copperbelt Provincial chairman Stephen Kainga and another party official are accused of obstructing a police officer from performing his duty failed to take off in a Kitwe Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
This is in a case in which Kainga and Stanley Chandindi are jointly charged with obstructing a police officer from performing his duties contrary to the Laws of Zambia.
Particulars are that the duo, on July 15, this year, in Kitwe, jointly and whilst acting together, obstructed a Zambia Police officer from executing his duties.
They both denied the charge.
When the matter came up for trial before principal resident magistrate Ikechukwu Iduma yesterday, the prosecution indicated that they were ready to proceed with the matter.
But Kainga’s lawyer Chitala Chali told the court that he needed more time to get full instructions from his clients because he had just been returned as counsel for both accused persons.
“We’ve not had time to get full instructions from our clients. In the circumstances, and regrettably so, we seek the indulgence of the court to adjourn the matter to a later date to enable us get full instructions and prepare for trial, “Mr Chali said.
Magistrate Iduma granted the application and adjourned the matter to August 18, this year, for commencement of trial.
